13th May 2008

Another fresh and bright morning to begin our working day!

Apologies from Liz Copeland, subbed by Helen Pointer, Scott Georgiades subbed by Nick Cole, David Dunnegan who was unwell and Mark Thornhill

Education:

Patrick Cunningham began his education slot asking for a show of hands to indicate how many people had recently shared a 1:1 with a fellow member, everyone looked uncomfortable as no hands were raised! He then went on to reiterate how 1:1’s were as important to the life blood of a healthy chapter as a high quality referral. Patrick handed out a couple of clever tips; when we have junk mail delivered to our door, we should make contact with the business and invite them along to a meeting, they are obviously keen to make business contacts through posting flyers and may welcome our invite. He also suggested we talk to our next door neighbours as we are not always aware of their needs, they might be keen to come along or at least be interested in being introduced to a particular member.

As there was no 10 minute slot, On the back of his first comments, Patrick gave everyone the challenge of instantly making as many 1:1 appointments for the following week…the record being made by Mark Hynes who is getting together with 11 members! A fun education slot, thanks Patrick

60 Seconds:

As always, a lot of fun and interesting 60 second presentations beginning with Kate Bellinger who had a great time with the Sandhurst soldiers and is looking forward to going back.

Tony Webb wants anyone… dead or alive; if they are alive and thinking of moving, buying or selling he is the man… and he can do probates for people who have died!

Nic Howard is always on the lookout for something different and he is even willing to go global for such things as fancy driveway blocks!

Mark Hynes talks in millions and saves people thousands, especially people with large policies with companies like BUPA!

Andrew Browne highlighted his ‘junk mail’ about cultured pearl days and reminded us all that gold is still selling at a record high.

James McLoughlin fully maintained the females attention with his clever chocolate inspired presentation.

Clive Wilson told of prayer support opportunities gained through his web design business.

Glen told a story outlining his latent discovery that a client and ‘fellow musician’ was in fact a member of Status Quo!

David Munday informed us of the Birmingham folks who like to run across hot coals and how the H&S at work team recommended they be fully clothed and shod!

David informed us that often these are only recommendations and people should weigh up the safety of situations for themselves.

The Star Speaker Award went to James McLoughlin (he was applauded loudly by the girlies!)

Reports:

Laura Downton reported that we had a total of  35 visitors last year
Leaders with referrals: Graham Tapley with 5 and Clive Wilson, Graham Hathaway and Andrew Browne with  4

10 Minutes:

The 10 minute slot was cancelled due to David Dunnegan being unwell

Events:
Friday 23rd May: 6:30pm - 8:30pm, Reigate Garden Party - that's THIS COMING FRIDAY people!

We need a minimum of 30 people in order to make it worthwhile doing the food. PLEASE support this get-together and bring your partners/friends if possible (£10 per head).

Clive will collect the £10 per person on Tuesday but if we don't get enough people then won't happen.

The garden party event will be early evening, around 6:30pm to 8:30pm and is for everyone - partners, friends, ex-members etc., so please invite people as the more we have the better and more fun it'll be.

Thought for the week:

Having once decided to achieve a certain task, achieve it at all costs of tedium and distaste. The gain in self confidence of having accomplished a tiresome labour is immense
Thomas A Bennett

Have a lovely week
